VA Community Care & Prosthetics
When you need prosthetic or orthotic care outside your VA facility, Ottobock Care is ready to see you — with nationally accredited clinics, experienced clinicians, and a straightforward referral process.
Sometimes the VA Refers You Out — and That's Okay.
The VA's Community Care program exists precisely for situations like yours: when the care you need isn't immediately available at your facility. Veterans may be referred to an outside provider when wait times exceed VA access standards, when a specialized prosthetic or orthotic service isn't offered at a local VA clinic, or when an outside provider is determined to be in your best clinical interest.
Ottobock Care clinics across the United States are experienced in working with veterans navigating this process. Whether you're coming to us through a VA Community Care referral or exploring your options independently, we can help you understand your path forward and get your care started.
Over 100 Years of Prosthetic and Orthotic Excellence
Every Ottobock Care clinic is accredited by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC). We maintain on-site fabrication labs so adjustments and fittings happen quickly, without sending your device off to a third party. And because we're manufacturer-agnostic, your clinician's only priority is finding the right solution for your specific anatomy, activity level, and goals — not steering you toward a particular brand.

How to See Us as a VA Patient
The process is more straightforward than it may seem. Here's how most veterans get started with Ottobock Care:
Step 1: Talk to your VA care team. Ask your VA primary care provider or specialist whether you qualify for a Community Care referral for prosthetic or orthotic services. Under the VA's access standards, you may be eligible if specialty care wait times exceed 28 days or if your VA facility does not offer the specific service you need.
Step 2: Request Ottobock Care as your provider. Once a referral is approved, you can request an Ottobock Care clinic in your area. Our staff is experienced in coordinating directly with VA Community Care to verify your authorization and get your appointment scheduled.
Step 3: Come in for your evaluation. Your clinician will conduct a thorough assessment — your medical history, functional goals, daily activity level, and any previous devices — before recommending a treatment plan. No rushed appointments. No assumptions.
Step 4: We handle the billing. Ottobock Care works directly with VA Community Care on billing and authorization. You focus on your care; we'll manage the paperwork.

Not sure if you qualify for Community Care? You can also contact Ottobock Care directly to discuss your situation. We'll help you understand your options, including any applicable VA benefit programs or other coverage you may have.
